Team up for more Maori sparkies in north


Industry training organisation The Skills Organisation has teamed up with NorthTec to provide training for electrical apprentices.
Chief executive Garry Fissenden says the collaboration is motivated in part by the extra investment the government is making in trade training, particularly for Maori.
By working with the Whangarei-based polytechnic, his organisation will be able to deliver programmes that give young people qualification and the region the skills needed to grow the local economy.
The Department of Labour has identified a national shortage of trained, qualified electricians.
