Flag choice has Otautahi flapping

The Christchurch City Council is debating which Maori flag it should fly for Waitangi Day.
The official government pick since 2009 is the distinctive black, white and red Te Tino Rangatiratanga flag, which is also flown on the day by the Dunedin and Wellington councils, among others.
Council advisors say consultation with Ngai Tahu indicated the situation in the South Island is different to that in the North Island and they consider that the national flag is not representative of the iwi.
While some runanga in the region fly it, others prefer the United Tribes of New Zealand flag.
The council will make its decision on Thursday.
