Strike kaupapa for disability care home workers
Workers at the country’s only kaupapa Maori residential disability provider have voted to go on strike early in the New Year.
PSA national secretary Richard Wagstaff says management at Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust has refused to settle a collective agreement.
He says the managers seem determined to drive down pay and conditions and break up the collective agreement.
The trust runs residential homes in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, and the South Island, and has a range of other services for intellectually disabled people and their whanau.
Mr Wagstaff says the union represents about 450 of the organisation’s staff at all its 57 residences.
