Maori has been added to Google’s online translation service.
Ross Young, Google’s New Zealand public policy manager, says the company has been working with Waikato University computer science lecturer Te Taka Keegan and a team of volunteers to create the thousands of words and phrases needed.
He says for minority languages such as Te Reo Maori, Google Translate provides more ways for the language to be seen and used, and greater understanding for those who are unfamiliar with it.
