Horan positive about job
Independent MP Brendan Horan says he’s keen to remain a politician, even if he can’t hope to get back in on a party list.
The Tauranga-based MP was kicked out of New Zealand First by leader Winston Peters over allegations he had taken money from his mother’s bank accounts before she died.
The executor of the estate has indicated that he would no longer pursue Mr Horan because legal fees were eating into what was left.
Mr Horan says Mr Peters jumped the gun based on bad information, and he should now have the decency to shut up, man up and apologise.
The former New Zealand representative water polo player says the media furore over the case came as a shock, but he has continued to do his job as an MP.
"I was thrown into the fire. They thought I would drown, but just as well I am a good swimmer. I've been able to speak out for the people in Kiwirail, I was the one that spoke out about the rotting timber that they had. Then we've got diabetics who have been having terrible problems. There's just a whole list of people that we have been able to bring attention to and make their lives a little bit better and make New Zealanders aware," Mr Horan says.
