Cabinet to consider Nepata compo

The Minister of Defence is to ask cabinet to consider whether additional compensation should be paid to two brothers seriously injured in separate army training incidents.
The Maori affairs select committee has recommended Damien and George Nepata get the extra pay-outs.
George Nepata was paralysed in Singapore in 1989 when he was dropped head-first by fellow soldiers carrying him up a slope on a stretcher.
Damien Nepata was seriously burned when the Scorpion tank he was driving crashed, rolled and caught fire during training at Waiouru army camp in 1994.
The brothers have been down this path before.
In 2003 a select committee unanimously supported their appeal but the Government rejected the recommendation.
