Parininihi Ki Waitotara celebrates dairy success

Taranaki incorporation Parininihi Ki Waitotara has used the first meeting in the province of industry group DairyNZ to show off its flagship dairy farm near Matapu.
Chief executive Dion Tuuta says with 14 dairy farms and four dairy support units on 3300ha in Taranaki, he believes PKW was among the industry's best performers.
It is joining Dairybase, DairyNZ's business performance analysis system, so it can benchmark farm performance against others.
Production in the 2012-13 season was 2.67 million kilograms of milksolids, and production this year is 8 percent up.
That includes a 15 percent boost at Matapu, which has 580 cows.
The incorporation established the 190 hectare farm last season after buying out lessees from part of the land, adding another block and building a 60-bail rotary cowshed.
Mr Tuuta says PKW aims to increase active control of its land, and now farms 15 percent of its 20,000 hectare portfolio.
