Ministers call auditors into Kohanga Reo

The Education Ministry is calling in an independent auditor to review Te Kohanga Reo National Trust.
Education Minister Hekia Parata and Associate Minister Dr Hon Pita Sharples met with trustees last night in the wake of a Maori Television story alleging the manager of the trust’s commercial subsidiary, Lynda Tawhiwhirangi, and long serving trustee Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi had used company credit cards to buy clothes, meals and accommodation.
The ministers said they were encouraged by the actions that the Trust has taken so far, but want the audit done to ensure the trust has the proper controls in place to assure itself that public funding is being used appropriately.
The audit will be done with the full cooperation of the Trust.
