HuiA boomerangs across Tasman

A performance at an indigenous music festival in the Sydney Opera House has led to more work across the ditch for Taihape taonga puoro player Jerome Kavanagh.
His band HuiA has been invited to the inaugural Boomerang Festival in Byron Bay, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest festivals of its kind in the world.
He says the sounds of traditional Maori instruments are getting a bigger response overseas than in Aotearoa, but that may change as younger generations get to hear the music.
Kavanagh and fellow band members Pauly Ngarimu and Awhina Twomey released a debut EP five years ago, and they are still working on a follow-up album.
