Maori Pasifika relations spotlighted

The Pacific Islands Media Association intends to put Pasifika and Maori relations under the spotlight at its annual fundraising dinner in November.
Interim chair Will Ilolahia says Pasifika people sympathise with the Maori struggle for tino rangatiratanga because they know the importance of having their own sovereignty back in the islands.
But they struggle to know where they fit into the conversation Maori are having because they have their own struggles with the system in New Zealand and many don’t want to wait in line for answers.
Mr Ilolahia says the evening’s featured speaker, Mana leader Hone Harawira, symbolises much of the Maori political angst which Pasifika people sympathise with but have struggled to understand.
