Ngati Rangitihi to address issues before moving on
The chair of Te Mana o Rangitihi says his organisation wants to resolve any potential divisions before it seeks a mandate to negotiate treaty claims.
Te Mana had scheduled a series of mandating hui next month, but will instead hold a hui a iwi at Matata on Sunday to clarify the position.
Graham Pryor says the intention was to finish the process that started with Rangitihi’s involvement in the Central North Island Forestry Settlement.
But some in the Bay of Plenty iwi feel it’s moving too fast.
"We’ve had some feedback from iwi members about issues they want to address before we move on and those concerns are something that we have to take in to account. We want to get as many of our people as we possbily can supporting us, not having issues going into a mandating process. So its about getting everybody on board our waka for the mandating process so thats what we're doing, just taking our time , we've got plenty of time " he says
Graham Pryor says Sunday’s hui will also discuss a review of Te Mana’s trust deed.
