Minto revelling in mayoral race

Auckland mayoral candidate John Minto says he’s expecting to poll far higher numbers in the local government election than in the last general election.
He says it has been a great platform to raise issues of importance to Mana supporters, even if the media is treating the race as a walkover for incumbent Len Brown.
Mr Minto is hoping his personal profile and the Mana brand will help pull in some votes.
"I was out at Manurewa market and we had a fantastic response, huge numbers out there, very positive, and someone said to me ‘oh yeah, but none of those people vote.’ That may be the case, but I think I’ll probably have the highest non-vote support of anyone," he says.
Postal ballot papers have now gone out for council races around the country, and must be returned by October 12.
