Line-up unveiled for Southside festival

Auckland is gearing up to celebrate the Maori and Pacific urban culture that has emerged from its southside.
For two weeks starting October 17 there will be more than 20 events and performances at venues around the city, including theatre, music, dance, fashion, street and visual arts, and the written word.
Southside Arts Festival spokesperson Gene Rivers says organisers have taking into account that many in the region don’t have a lot of disposable income by making many of the events free.
He says the aim is also to share south Auckland's unique and vibrant culture with the rest of Auckland.
Highlights of the Southside Arts Festival includes the all-day Southside Gig at the Vodafone Events Centre, the Cult Couture fashion showcase, The Mixer featuring stars like Ria, Dei Hamo and Sons of Zion doing their take on classic old school tracks, and a concert by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra.
