Good year for Ngati Pahauwera

Northern Hawkes Bay iwi Ngati Pahauwera will this weekend report on the progress it has made in the year since its treaty settlement.
Toro Waaka, the chair of the Ngati Pahauwera Development Trust, says as well as making long term plans to develop and grow the iwi’s asset based, there have been some tangible benefits for members.
These include an agreement with forestry company Pan Pac to not only provide job opportunities for iwi members but also to allow the Pahauwera Pig Hunting Club access to its forests.
The company is also providing free firewood for whanau living in the area
Mr Waaka says Sunday’s AGM at Waipapa-A-Iwi Marae in Mohaka will also get an update on Ngati Pahuwera’s foreshore and seabed customary rights claim, which includes the right to extract hangi stones from within its rohe.
