Wall endorses Cunliffe bid
Manurewa MP Louisa Wall says she’s backing David Cunliffe to be the next leader of the Labour Party.
The three candidates, Mr Cunliffe, Grant Robertson and Shane Jones, hold their final hustings meeting in Christchurch tonight, and the result of the contest will be known by Sunday afternoon.
Ms Wall says she backed Mr Cunliffe when he stood against David Shearer, with Nanaia Mahuta as his deputy.
Her working relationship with the New Lynn MP started when she first came to parliament in 2008 as a list MP.
"I was on the Health select committee, he was the Minister of Health, and the way he engaged with me as a new member of parliament and also a backbencher for me was really constructive. I think he will lead an inclusive team and everybody will have an opportunity to contribute," Ms Wall says.
She hasn’t had much to do with Shane Jones recently, even though he is now the party’s Maori Affairs spokesperson.
