Questions over Maori TV top job

Questions are being asked in Parliament about the appointment of a new chief executive for Maori Television.
The channel’s board is deadlocked over two candidates, accountant Richard Jefferies and former TVNZ executive Paora Maxwell.
Labour’s broadcasting spokesperson, Clare Curran, asked shareholding minister Bill English whether he believes Maori Television chairperson Georgina te Heuheu, a former National MP, has a conflict of interest because of her close friendship with Mr Maxwell.
She says the board turned down an offer from TVNZ chief executive Kevin Kendrick for a briefing on why Mr Maxwell left with no employment reference under a confidential agreement.
Maori Television staff have been circulating a petition against Mr Maxwell.
Mr English said he expects the Maori Television Board to behave with proprietary.
