Commission picked to decide boundaries
Government and Opposition nominees have been put on the Representation Commission, which will determine boundaries for the next election.
The Greens and New Zealand First objected to the process, under which National and Labour used their combined votes to get the nominees through.
Former MPs Roger Sowry and Pete Hodgson will represent the Government and Opposition for the general seat boundaries, while Dan Te Kanawa and Whetumarama Werata will help determine the Maori electoral districts.
The Commission will take into account the latest census figures and relevant electoral law which includes guidelines for the size, number and location of electorate seats.
One of its tasks is determining whether the results of the Maori electoral option run earlier this year means an increase or decrease in the number of Maori seats.
