Silicon Valley inspires Sharples

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples is urging Maori trusts and incorporations to invest more in science.
He told an event at the Waka Maori in New Zealand’s America’s Cup Village in San Francisco celebrating Maori business, that the story of Silicon Valley, which has built a huge economy based on ground-breaking ideas, should inspire Maori.
He says Maori already had a proud history of innovation which they need to back up with investment if the Maori economy is to grow.
Dr Sharples was in California visiting a group of Maori iwi and business leaders who were doing a week-long primary industry bootcamp at Stanford University.
