Papa new chair for Waikato-Tainui

Waikato-Tainui Executive Chair Tom Roa and his deputy Hemi Rau have been demoted.
At the first meeting of Te Arataura since the tribal parliament elected Edward Hoki-Mai Chong to the executive, the controversial pair were replaced by Rahui Papa and Tipa Mahuta.
They stay on as board members, and Mr Roa remains in his role as negotiator on behalf of Waikato-Tainui.
Mr Papa is a noted orator and expert in Tainui oral history, who is serving his fourth term on Te Arataura.
Mr Rau was voted on to the executive at the end of 2011 after he had been dismissed as the tribe's chief executive for leaking information to media during one of the internal power struggles that has plagued the iwi in recent years.
