Henare defends developer bias in new RMA

National list MP, Tau Henare, is defending his party’s reform of the Resource Management Act passed this week.
Opposition parties say the rewrite weakens environmental protections and will make it much harder for tangata whenua and other stakeholders to have their say.
Mr Henare says the RMA has been good, but after 20 years it needed a review to make it useful for today’s condition.
"Quite frankly we need to be able to free up some time, because time is money when it comes to developments and when it comes to building. If people want affordable housing, developers must be able to get in on the ground level and not pay through the nose even before a house has been built," he says.
