Tangata whenua to have say on Hauraki plan
Ngāti Maru lawyer, Paul Majurey, has been appointed to head the steering group responsible for creating a marine spatial plan for the Hauraki Gulf.
His co-chair is Auckland councillor, Penny Webster.
In the coming months the project steering group will set up a stakeholder working group including iwi, recreational users, industry, not for profit organisations and local, regional and central government.
The country’s first marine spatial plan will provide non-statutory strategic direction for the entire gulf, with a view to protecting its health and productivity.
