Gay couples will be legally allowed to marry from today, and Māori man Jay Hohaia will be one of the first to tie the knot.
The Auckland community child health worker will wed his partner of seven years, Welsh-born psychiatric nurse Simon Portelli.
The ceremony will be partly in Welsh, conducted by the country’s only Welsh-speaking celebrant.
Mr Hohaia will wear his korowai, while Mr Portelli will wear a blue and green Pride of Wales tartan kilt.
