Dame Anne Salmond leads line-up

Professor Dame Anne Salmond, the New Zealander of the year, will headline this year’s Kingitanga Day at the University of Waikato.
She's a Professor of Māori Studies and Anthropology at the University of Auckland.
The second keynote speaker on September 12 will be Ngāi Tahu head Sir Mark Solomon.
Professor Linda Smith, the University’s pro vice chancellor Māori, says the day is an opportunity not only to engage widely with the public and the community, but to showcase the cultural diversity of the University.
She says the University has a unique relationship with Waikato-Tainui and the iwi of its catchment area, a high proportion of Māori students, and it is known for its strengths in applying Māori language and knowledge across its Faculties.
Other prominent speakers will cover a range of topics, from volcanic research to Māori involvement in the private military security industry.
There will also be workshops on haka and raranga, as well as concerts and performances.
