Tu brings high emotion to stage
A play about love, war, redemption and whānau returns to Auckland this weekend.
Tu is a stage adaption by Hone Kouka of Patricia Grace’s novel of the same name, three brothers who enlist in the 28th Māori Battalion but only one returns.
Taungaroa Emilie, who has played Boydie in all the runs of the play so far, says it’s great material for the actors to work with.
"As a storyteller I feel that if we don't laugh, cry, die on stage then we are not doing our job properly," he says.
Tu is on a Q Theatre until July 27 as part of the Matariki Festival.
