Sink or swim time for Whānau Ora

The Whānau Ora model for delivering integrated services to Māori and other communities has been cast off from central government control.
The Minister for Whānau Ora, Tariana Turia, says responsibility for distributing Whānau Ora funding is to go to three regional non-government organisations, one for the North Island, one for the South Island and a Pacific agency.
The Government will establish a Crown-Iwi Whānau Ora Partnership Group comprising senior ministers, iwi chairs and experts on whānau ora.
She says the new agencies will be required to have their own regional networks and capabilities to support their commissioning plans and decision-making.
The existing Regional Leadership Groups and the whānau ora governance group will be wound down by the end of December.
