Judge Mick Brown wins leadership medal
Pioneering judge Mick Brown has been awarded the Sir Peter Blake medal for his lifetime achievement.
As the first principal judge of the Youth Court, Judge Brown set the kaupapa for the new youth court justice system that has been picked up around the world.
Presenting the medal at the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards, Lady Pippa Blake said his influential leadership dramatically changed the juvenile court system and greatly improved outcomes for individuals and families.
Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards were presented to six emerging leaders, including Kaitaia general practioner Lance O’Sullivan, who is addressing child poverty and whānau health issues in Northland, Flaxmere College principal Louise Anaru, who is credited with turning around achievement levels at the decile 1 Hastings school; and Nicola Ngarewa, who has led a dramatic turnaround of Tamatea High School in Napier.
