Kaitiaki role drive Green candidate
The Greens’ Ikaroa-Rāwhiti candidate says the Green message is resonating strongly with voters in the eastern Māori electorate.
The by-election to replace the late Parekura Horomia is on Saturday, and candidates are making a final push for votes.
Marama Davidson says the environment is a focal point of her campaign.
"People want a good life for our mokopuna and that includes protecting papatuanuku for generations to come. In the post treaty settlement phase we are seeing, many in our hapū are taking on that kaitiaki role and it's actually our nannies and our wahine who often lead the charge because of the natural kaitiaki role that we have," she says.
