Unnamed ancestors emerge from Grey collection

There’s a mystery at the Auckland Central Library the mayor would like solved.
Len Brown helped to open an exhibition that will run for the next four months of items from the collection of one of New Zealand’s earliest governors, Sir George Grey.
It includes many rare items linked to the early days of the city, and also documents and tāonga that came from the relationships the governor and other Pākehā settlers had with iwi in the region.
Mr Brown says some of the photographs in the collection of kaumatua and kuia are unnamed, and the library hopes exhibition visitors may be able to identify their tupuna.
