Rangitane refurbish treaty property
Top of the South Island iwi Rangitane has opened what will be the centrepiece of its treaty settlement portfolio.
Development Manager Richard Bradley says it bought the five-storey Blenheim mail centre from the Crown in 2010 for $3 million, and it has since done a $2 million refit.
This has allowed it to retain existing tenants and bring in new ones, as well as giving it a new head office.
The renamed Rangitane House was opened yesterday, the 173rd anniversary of Rangitane signing the Treaty of Waitangi at Port Underwood.
Richard Bradley says Rangitane hopes the Te Tau Ihu Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Bill will be passed by Christmas, so the iwi can start collecting rent on the rest of its treaty settlement portfolio.
