Crucial votes in Tainui parliament
The battle over control of Tainui's executive will come to a head tomorrow with a number of elections in the tribal parliament.
The first task could be to elect a new chair for Te Kauhanganui itself, which is likely to come down to either Maxine Moana or Sam Toka.
The parliament has been chaired by the kings' representative, Tukoroirangi Morgan, since the previous chair, Tania Martin, was sacked for bringing the institution into disrepute.
Mr Morgan is a candidate for the post of senior negotiator, along with the chair of the tribal executive, Tom Roa, former assistant police commissioner Clint Rickards, Tipa Mahuta and Waahi Whaanui Trust Chief Executive, Hori Awa.
Mr Awa is also going for a vacant seat on the executive Te Arataura, along with former league star, Tawera Nikau, and several others.
The almost 200 Te Kauhanganui members also have to consider a motion to sack Te Arataura deputy chair, Hemi Rau, for allegedly bringing the parliament into disrepute.
