Rangitihi environment plan honoured

Bay of Plenty iwi Ngāti Rangitihi’s foresight has been acknowledged by the planning profession.
Te Mana ō Ngāti Rangitihi Trust won two awards at the New Zealand Planning Institute’s annual conference for its iwi environmental management plan.
The plan was prepared by the trust with funding and support from Bay of Plenty Regional Council and help from Antoine Coffey on secondment from environmental consultancy Boffa Miskell.
Ngāti Rangitihi Environment and Research Manager Kura Paul-Burke say the plan aims to present Māori knowledge alongside environmental objectives and policies.
She says it’s a living document that will help the iwi take part in planning and resource management in its rohe, which stretches from the Matata shoreline and inland to Lake Tarawera and the Waikato River.
