Peter negative on budget picks
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters wants to see incentives for exporters in today’s budget.
Finance Minister Bill English’s latest effort is expected to be fairly dry as the National-led Government continues to cut services in its search for a surplus.
Mr Peters told the annual Māori Fisheries Conference he’s expecting adherence to failed economic models and no recognition of the fact New Zealand’s economy depends on exports and exporters.
"So you sit here critically dependent on an export market with a most dangerous product called fish because the moment you catch it you've got a problem. How to get rid of it at maximum condition for the best possible price, and i don't think you've got a government who's got any idea about that what’s so ever so keep on telling yourself you're paralysed as to the outcome," he says.
Mr Peters is also expecting little help for struggling manufacturers.
