Mountain of films for Wairoa
This year’s Wairoa Māori Film Festival includes a bumper crop from Mt Zion Director Te Arepa Kahi as well as an extensive selection of Māori documentaries and some award winning international films.
Festival Director Leo Koziol says as well as his box office hit, Te Arepa Kahi will present his documentaries The Flight of Te Hōkioi and Allan Baldwin in Frame.
There are new short films from Directors Michael Reihana, Lennie Hill, Tamati Ihaka, Renae Maihi, Catherine Bisley and Lauren Jackson.
Filipino Director Auraeus Solito will attend with his film Busong, which won the Merata Mita award at the National Geographic All Roads Film Festival in Washington DC last year. The festival will be at Kahungunu Marae, Nuhaka, Wairoa District, from May 30 to June 3 2013.
Mr Koziol says the Wairoa festival team will also curate Māori film works for audiences in Auckland, Wellington, Invercargill, Raglan, Sydney, London and Hamburg.
