Fox seeking Wairoa mayoralty
Former Wairoa Mayor Derek Fox is after the job again.
The veteran Māori broadcaster has ruled out standing for the Ikaroa Rawhiti seat left vacant by the death of Labour MP Parekura Horomia.
But he says serving the district for 12 years as a councillor and then mayor was one of the most satisfying things he has done in his life, and he has more to contribute.
He says proposals to amalgamate Wairoa with other Hawkes Bay councils need to be studied calmly and professionally so Wairoa people can understand any potential benefits or threats.
First term Wairoa District Councillor Craig Little has also put his hand up to replace four-term mayor Les Probert, who has indicated he will not seek re-election.
