Asset sale petition falls short
Greens Co-leader Metiria Turei says a shortfall in the number of signatures needed to force a referendum on state asset sales is disappointing but easy to remedy.
Collectors from the Labour and Green Parties are heading out again to collect an additional 16,000 names of people who want a moratorium on further privatisation.
Ms Turei says a buffer is always needed to deal with invalid signatures cause by people moving, or when their address details don't match up with what's on the electoral roll.
She says what is surprising is the fact the Government of John Key is selling shares in Mighty River Power this week despite the widespread public opposition.
