Mana leader Hone Harawira says remembering Parekura Horomia is a cause for celebration as well as a time for grief.
Mourners are flowing through Hauiti Marae in Tolaga Bay for the tangi of the Ikaroa Rawhiti MP, who died on Monday.
Mr Harawira, who worked under Mr Horomia in the Labour Department’s Community Employment Group, says before he was a politician he was an able and innovative public servant.
“He was a great friend. Not just for me but to heaps of people and not just a great friend. When he was the boss of the Community Employment Group, thousands upon thousands of small community groups, individual and whānau that Parekura helped within that time. He was bold, innovative. Those who worked for him as I worked for him for a time, backed us to the hilt,” Hone Harawira says.
