MP’s courage remembered

The body of Parekura Horomia is now lying in state at Hauiti Marae in Tolaga Bay.
Hundreds of whānau have returned home to help host the thousands of people expected to attend the tangi for the Ikaroa Rawhiti MP, who died on Monday.
Greens Co-leader Metiria Turei says he gave everything to the job, which he did with great humour and overwhelming generosity.
She says he was known for fronting up, even on policies he might not have agreed with personally.
“He would front up to his people to things like the Foreshore and Seabed. He was humble, upfront, and brave and talked about what he was doing. That’s why he was getting the majority of people listening when people where choosing to vote for him because he was up front, honest and humble,” Metiria Turei says.
