Waipareira-DHB link start of something big

Te Whānau ō Waipareira hopes having Waitemata District Health Board as a tenant will strengthen relationships between the organisations.
The West Auckland services trust yesterday welcomed the DHB into its Whānau Health complex in Henderson, where it will co-locate several clinics.
Chief Executive John Tamihere says as Waipareira grows its own capacity it needs to work closely with Auckland’s DHBs.
“We’ve got to be able to determine whether the investments that are happening now are achieving the type of outcomes that we want. You’ve got to drop volumes heading towards hospitals. We can clearly demonstrate that on the primary health and public sides of things, we’re doing that. We should be supported and upgraded in contract and in capacity,” he says.
John Tamihere says having paediatric and community nursing clinics at Henderson rather than at Waitakere and North Shore Hospitals should make services more accessible and cut down the number of missed appointments.
