Cloud settles over Mt Hikurangi
Former Māori Affairs Minister MP Dover Samuels says a cloud has settled over Mt Hikurangi.
He says Parekura Horomia was always working for his people, mostly without any fanfare.
“There is a heavy cloud that has settled down on the top Mt Hikurangi. The hearts of people go out to him and his family. I only spoke to him a week ago and he was very jovial with the same old nature. I knew when I looked at him deeply and he knew too that he wasn’t a hundred percent well. He told me that he was gonna take a break and take some time off. He actually told me that many times when we both were in parliament and he never took the time off nor took a break and kept on working, day and night. He certainly lit the candle at both ends,” he says.
Dover Samuels says Parekura Horomia was the glue that kept the Māori caucus together during the toughest times of the foreshore and seabed debate.
