Mather moving on to new challenge
Outgoing Chief Executive Jim Mather says he's had a great time at Māori Television, but it's time to let someone else shape the channel.
The former army officer turned accountant has been named the new head of the largest Māori tertiary institution, Te Wānanga ō Aotearoa.
He's proud of the work he has been able to do for the revitalisation of te reo Māori, but it's time for a new era of leadership at Māori Television.
“It's been an absolute honour working alongside some of my talented and passionate colleagues and I want to mihi to them. Takes me back to the whakatauki ‘Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini’. Our success at Māori Television has been a success of not just the person at the helm but of every single person here and I would like to take that philosophy and culture through to Te Wānanga ō Aotearoa,” he says.
Jim Mather says in terms of his own educational development, he's keen to complete his doctorate at AUT University in Māori development.
