Large kaitiaki says police complicit in attack
The kaitiaki of Lake Horowhenua says police stood by and watched as his home was vandalised.
Philip Taueki has got an order from the Māori Land Court stopping the Lake Horowhenua Trust Board taking further action to demolish the former lakeside nursery where he has lived for the past decade.
At Easter, the trust chair, Eugene Henare ripped a power board from the outside wall and damaged some walls.
Mr Taueki says the police were there.
“Despite telling the police I was a tenant, despite telling the police they had no building permit and they had no qualifications for doing this work. The resolution hadn’t been confirmed by the trustees, my own sister is a trustee and she was here while they were trying to evict me. Despite all that, the police stood on and watched,” he says.
Philip Taueki says he was arrested, and while he was in police cells, his belongings were piled into the centre of the room and his laptop was broken.
