Tainui makes $950k smart investment
Waikato-Tainui has approved a total of $950,000 in education grants and scholarships for more than 600 descendants.
Chief Executive Parekawhia McLean says most of this year’s grants are for study at Bachelor degree level while 46 are at Master degree level, and 12 at PHD level.
They are funded from the profits of commercial arm Tainui Group Holdings.
She says priority was given to those studying sciences (including environmental science), business management, early childhood teaching, engineering, surgery, medicine, health science, and nursing.
There was also a focus on fostering mātauranga Māori and Te reo Māori education.
