Tauranga Māori are angry that Christians have again illegally placed a cross on the summit of Mauao.
Ngāti Ranginui Chair Brian Huikakahu Kawe says it’s not the first Easter this has happened.
He says the mountain is owned by Tauranga Moana iwi, and the fact that the large fence-post cross was erected at night shows that those responsible knew they were doing wrong.
He hoped those responsible would come forward and apologise.
The cross and a misspelt ply board sign have been removed.
