Hospital overhaul creates opportunity for hauora
Māori health providers are lining up to take advantage of the redevelopment of Tokoroa Hospital.
Waikato District Health Board is spending up to $1.9 million to relocate its blood collection service into the hospital and also make room for primary care providers.
Chief Executive Craig Climo says its part of a strategy to get primary and secondary providers working together.
A GP practice supported by National Māori Coalition has indicated it wants space in a spare ward, and other Māori and Pacific communities have also expressed interest.
Much of the work will be complete and the facility ready for use by October.
