Labour Māori MPs seeking new voters
Labour’s Māori Caucus are encouraging Māori who are enrolling for the first time to sign up on the Māori roll.
Ikaroa-Rawhiti MP Parekura Horomia says getting on the roll and voting in 2014 is a way to make sure that there is strong Māori representation in Parliament on the issues that matter most to Māori.
That includes jobs that pay well, decent homes, affordable healthcare and an education system that ensures all children reach their full potential.
Māori who are already enrolled should have received their Māori Option pack in the mail, explaining how they can switch between the Māori and general rolls.
This could lead to an increase in the number of Māori seats, but only if a lot more switch from the general to the Māori roll than go the other way.
