Coast readies for Hone Kaa unveiling
The East Coast community of Rangitukia is preparing for a big influx over the weekend of people attending the unveiling for the late venerable Hone Kaa.
The Anglican priest, who in his later years set up Te Mana Ririki Trust to tackle violence against children, died a year ago.
Gisborne-based minister Chris Hikuwai says he is still missed deeply.
“For us I suppose it’s an opportunities for those of us who were more of an active part in his tangi to go back and have a bit of tangi ourselves, given that we weren’t able to do that because we were looking after the whānau during the funeral. Alot of people will be coming back and still trying to adjust to life without Matua Hone in it I suppose,” says Chris Hikuwai.
There will be a powhiri at Hinepare Mārae at 4pm tomorrow followed by kai and a memorial service, with the hura kohatu happening at 11am on Saturday at the mārae and then at Okaroro Urupā.
