Flavell stokes fires under leadership
The Maori Party’s Te Ururoa Flavell continues to fire up his leadership challenge despite the hierarchy’s attempts to dampen down the flames.
The Waiariki MP told TVNZ’s Q + A programme that it was not up to co-leader Pita Sharples to say he was staying on, as the decision needed to be made by the party’s national council.
After an inconclusive hui on the issue a week ago, Dr Sharples said he was willing to lead the party until he died.
Mr Flavell says members need to look to the future, and that means bringing through a younger generation so it can present itself to the nation and being a vibrant and cohesive party.
