The Māori Party plans to introduce a private members bill to tackle institutional racism.
Co-leader Tariana Turia says there is substantial research showing that in sectors like health and criminal justice, much of the inequality between Māori and Pākeha comes down to racism within the system.
She says Māori get poorer clinical health care in public hospitals than non-Māori, particularly in the areas of obstetric treatment, cardiac intervention, end stage renal disease and mental illness.
