Showcase to boost careers
It's the 20 minutes that can turbo-charge a career.
Many of the country's top Māori and Pasifika acts have been showing what they can do at Sounds Aotearoa.
Director Wharehoka Wano says with many international festival directors in town for the Auckland Arts Festival, the expo is a good opportunity to get noticed.
As well as performances, there are talks and workshops on how acts should manage themselves off stage and on stage.
Mr Wano says advice from Nathan Graves of British marketing company Innate Music was particularly helpful.
"He had a really good talk to our artists about being real, real about where they are and bringing their A game to any event they do. They only get 20 minutes to showcase themselves in Auckland at the Aotea Square and they've got to really present themselves in a good way, not rock in there casually but ready to strut their stuff," he says.
Sounds Aotearoa ends this evening with showcase sets by Will Crummer & The Rarotongans, Maisey Rika, AWA, Sid Diamond, Pieter T and Dei Hamo.
