Tame Iti paroled to Ruatoki
The Parole Board has imposed lenient conditions on Urewera Four members Tame Iti and Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara, who are set to leave prison in the next few days.
The pair was jailed last May for 30 months on weapons charges arising out of camps near Ruatoki in 2007 as the prosecution tried to paint the pair as being preparing for paramilitary activity.
The board says both have been exemplary prisoners and are at low risk to the community.
Mr Iti, who leaves Waikeria Prison tomorrow, has asked to return to whānau land in Ruatoki.
Until his statutory release date on October 2 2014, he must live at the specified address unless he had the written approval of a parole officer.
He was also ordered not to communicate or associated with some specified persons without written consent.
Mr Kemara will be released from Springhill Prison on March 4, and must also reside at a specified address.
A job is available which he cannot change without notifying the parole officer, and he is also required to undertake counselling.
A similar non-association order applied as with Mr Iti.
